VisionIT CEO David Segura delivered a heartfelt keynote address at the 7th Annual Wayne County Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration titled “Empowered Latinos: Forging a New Vision”.  He also received an award for Leadership in Business by the event’s host, Wayne County Executive Robert Ficano.

Segura during his speech focused on the important role that his familia (family), who settled in Wayne County more than 90 years ago, has played in his ability to achieve his dreams.

“My grandparents came from Mexico with a belief and vision that a greater future existed here in Wayne County,” he said during the speech.  “My parents being born and raised in Southwest Detroit set out on their quest to create a better life for the Segura family... My father often reminded me, that working in the auto factories was his purpose but not where he wanted me to be...That working as an executive in corporate America would be my destiny.”

He also acknowledged how the Hispanic community in Wayne County has played an important role in his ability to develop as an executive; and how great people from the community have been willing to join his team to make it a success.

“Today, I also have many friends here in this community, who have watched me grow the vision I set out to create close to 13 years ago…that vision has evolved as I continued to learn more and more…”

“I added great people to our company, people like Larry Arreguin…he is a great example of someone from this community who said, let me help you, let me help you get connected and understand how to do business here.”

Segura also told the crowd of over 300 Hispanic community activists and leaders about VisionIT’s continued commitment to being an advocate for Wayne County.  He shared a story about a Fortune 1000 CEO who he hosted for a meeting that had not been to Detroit for years.  He said by the end of that visit, the CEO said,

“…he was impressed by our airport, impressed by VisionIT headquarters in New Center Detroit and our downtown area.  He said, wow you have something special here and you are right in the center of it.  How do I invest with you in growing because this place has so much potential?”
Since that visit, Segura shared that the leadership of that company has been back several times and finalized an agreement to do business with his firm because he was able to leverage Wayne County and the lower cost of doing business here.

After the speech, Ficano presented Segura with a business leadership award from Wayne County.
